UFO

Last Thursday I quilted this using the longarm at the shop.  This quilt top languished in my closet for toooo long, since 2004... I think.  Originally, I had planned to hand quilt it with Baptist Fans after I'm done hand quilting another project.  But that project got put away and has been languishing for me to come back to it too. So when I discovered that there's a Baptist Fan pattern on the machine in the shop, it's time to get this puppy out of the closet and get it on the finish list.

I did a lot of online swaps back then with different Yahoo Groups.  These blocks came from Nickel Quilts Group.  We decided to swap the blocks using Civil War Reproduction fabrics.  The pattern is Paducah 9-Patch and can be found in the first Nickel Quilts book.

Can you see the Baptist Fans quilting?
I love it!

Up next, binding.
Let's hope that it won't take me another few more years to really put it on the finish list.

Happy Quilting,
Rhonda

Star Struck Backing

Happy Veteran's Day!

I finally stopped by my LQS the other day and picked up some fabrics for the back of Star Struck. They had the perfect yellow fabric for this quilt, and even better, the fabric was on sale. ;-)

The backing made up of the new yellow fabric, leftover piano border, 2 leftover blocks, and a purple fabric that came from my stash. That green bundle on top is the binding. I like to prepare the bindings at the same time as the backing. So as soon as it's quilted, the binding goes on. This way I won't loose the momentum of getting the quilt finished. :-)

Star Struck Flimsy

Yeah!!

I stayed up late last night just so I could get the border onto this Star Struck. It's so well worth it 'cause now I can call it a flimsy. :o)

I was afraid that I might not have enough leftover yellow and purple squares to do the piano key border, but as you can see, I do have enough and more. Those extras will go into piecing the back.

The weather this morning is a bit ugly... cloudy and humid.... so the snapshot is a bit dark. Click on the photo to see who's underneath...

It's our Suki Girl! She loves quilts and loves to have her picture taken... wether on top or bottom. lol ... and look at those feet. LOL

Have a great long weekend!

I'm on a roll!

Yippee! One more finish to add to Peg's challenge. The pattern is Boxy Stars by Bonnie Hunter.Half of the fabrics came from 2 1/2" strips or noodles that I had swapped at a Yahoo group, NickelQuilts, about two years ago. I bought FQs for the other half because I wanted a certain blues and greens in the quilt. The inner borders and binding came from stash. The outside border fabric came from Susan, my SIL. Doesn't it added that final touch to the quilt? :-) When Susan emailed me the photos of her fabrics that she bought for her first quilt, I coveted ...yes, I did! lol... that flowers fabric. After all, it has all the same colors I had picked out for this quilt, and it was meant for me, right Susan? LOL Well, she kindly sent it to me right away for me to use. I love how the fabric looks in the quilt. Thanks, Susan!

Here's the back side...
It took me longer to decide how to quilt this than to actually quilted it. I spent 3 days of looking through magazines, blogs, and websites for inspirations and finally narrowed down to swirls and feathers. I spent less than 3 hours on Sunday afternoon quilting it... from winding the bobbins to taking mini breaks. It is freehanded with sort of large half feathers and swirls and echos around the shapes.

You know, I love this quilt! It's going to be very difficult for me to give this away. At least, I will have it for a few months longer 'cause it will be a Christmas gift.

There is a box for me!

We've been so busy lately that no one remembered to walk out to the mailbox to get the mail. I finally swung by it this afternoon. My mailbox was so full that the mailman had to put the regular mail in with the larger mailbox for packages, and there it is, my box from my Secret Sister. It came from Sunset, Utah, with no name in the return address.

Since it my birthday tomorrow, I will wait to open it tomorrow. *U* What a nice birthday present! *te he*

I promise that I'll post pictures this weekend.

Package sent

Do you remember my post a few weeks ago about Secret Sister Swap with the Nickels Group? Tomorrow is the deadline to send our gifts out, and I'm glad to have my package sent out today.... another thing check off on my list. *U*

I hope my Secret Sister will like what I sent for her; I can't wait to receive my package.

Hmm... wonder who got my name
